Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

Equine-assisted psychotherapy is the use of horses to help with human psychological problems

Established in 2021, Sussex Equine Therapy offers an alternative to more traditional talking therapies

It is;

  • Ground based - the horses are not ridden, they help you understand your current situation by acting as a character or metaphor in your story
  • Solution focused - we believe the solutions lie within you, the horses simply help you discover them
  • Team approach - horses, client(s) Equine Specialist & Mental Health Professional
  • Follows a code of ethics to ensure high standards of practice & the best level of care

Who is it suitable for?

Equine-assisted therapy can be used to help people with addictions, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, stress, PTSD, emotional needs, learning disabilities, suicidal thoughts, self harm, offending and so much more.

It can also be used for team building, resilience workshops, family dynamics and other group situations.

What if you are scared of horses?

That's OK, many people are, they are big animals and can move quickly. You don't have to touch the horse, or even go into the field with them, you can simply watch them until you feel safe to be closer with them
